Beer that bites back.

Evil Queen was born from a conversation that my fiancé and I had years ago in Savannah about how we would want to brand our hypothetical dream brewery. I like pretty things and fairytales, and he likes heavy metal themed breweries like TRVE and Burial. We met in the middle and developed this concept, inspired by the tale of Snow White and the wicked Queen. Feminine but also bold; sassy but also endearing: Evil Queen.

Process

The logo began as a style that was more gothic-inspired and hand-rendered. I looked heavily to illuminated manuscripts and blackletter for my initial inspiration, but it didn't feel elegant enough for the brand vision. After multiple iterations, we settled on the contemporary elegance of Didot for the logotype. The crown mark is an amalgamation of various glyphs.

The illustrations were created first by hand and then translated to vectors within Adobe Illustrator - the sharp edges help define a severe but polished aesthetic for the beer labels.

"A cold heart is bad enough, but a black heart is downright evil. Luckily, that’s just the way we like it. Our signature American Style Black Ale is the beer that started it all. Brewed with Zeus, Columbus and Centennial hops, a menagerie of malts, and a helping of malevolence, you may need to brace yourself for this one. And don’t be alarmed if you feel your heart withering away to nothing in your chest."
